MOAA Educational Assistance -- School Year 2010-2011

The Military Officers Association of America announces that applications for its Educational Assistance Scholarships, grant, and interest-free loan programs are now available for the school year 2010-2011. The application deadline is March 1. Applications must be submitted online at www.moaa.org/education.
 
The Military Officers Association of America Scholarship Fund provides educational assistance for children of military families, officer, enlisted, active and retired. The program distributes interest free loans and grants totaling up to $5,500 per school year to students, under the age of 24, who are children of currently serving and retired officers, commissioned and warrant, and enlisted (regular, Reserve and Guard) for up to five years of undergraduate education at an accredited two or four year college or university.
 
Qualified students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale are selected on the basis of their scholastic ability, activities, and financial need. If selected, loans are disbursed in two increments - one half by early August and one half by mid-December.
                              
Eleven college age children of military families in the Fort Bliss area were awarded Educational Assistance Scholarships for this current school year. Receiving $5,500 each, in either an interest free loan or a $5,000 interest free loan and a $500 grant were: Casandra K. Hicks; Marie T. Putko; Reena M. Barnett; CmVigil April; Dona Silcott; Angel Lara; Deanna E. Key, Maria- Bethlelhem E. Pal-laya; Matthew Estrada; and Kenneth E. Broomfield, Jr. for a total of $60,500 to children of El Paso area military families.
