As part of the ongoing effort between the U.S. and British militaries to strengthen interoperability and enhance their alliance, the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division officially welcomed British Brig. Gen. Frazer Lawrence as its new deputy commanding general for operations. He is the first non-U.S. military officer to hold this position. Lawrence has been working in his new job since Oct. 18, but Nov. 23 marked the division’s official welcome for him and his wife, Jo, to the 1st AD team. Military and civilian leaders from throughout the region attended the ceremony. He is one of only three British deputy commanding generals serving with a U.S. Army unit.

"In the things that matter – the things that really count – we are the same. Our leadership code, like yours, is values-based. We, like you, strive to lead by example. Our leaders, like yours, care deeply about those under their command and our soldiers, like you, are absolutely dedicated to their profession. Our units, like yours, strive to be as professional as they can be,” Lawrence said.
